Window Washing 101

I talked about dusting yesterday, but today let's discuss an even more monumental task. I would bet that dusting is a more frequent event than window washing! Aside from the occasional window mess, most people set aside a day for windows.

Let's take a stroll down memory lane again, shall we? I did a LOT of cleaning when I was growing up. I'll be honest, I didn't mind it and I must have done a pretty good job since my mom kept having me do it! Windows were a huge event at our house growing up.

We didn't have tilt in windows and window washing meant removing ALL the screens and getting out a ladder and tangling with the bushes around the house. I can remember starting with the hard part (outside) and then going inside where I probably had to tangle with messes in my brothers' rooms to get to their windows!

I would hang a garbage bag from my ladder and go through rolls and rolls of paper towel and probably a whole bottle of glass cleaner (which, by the way, have ratings as low as D+ from the EWG safety rating page-one was even discontinued!!) I never did try the trick with vinegar and newspaper, but I can tell you that working with vinegar and water usually wrecks my hands. Being the perfectionist that I am, the lint left behind with paper towels did always drive me nuts. Not to mention, the paper towel would get stuck on the grids (that I didn't have the patience to remove!).

Now, in my own home, I have scads of windows that are rarely clean due to kids and a dog. I am eternally grateful for double hung, tilt in windows and could kick myself for not getting grids built into the glass. Nonetheless, I still went through the miles of paper towels and glass cleaner until I discovered the most magical window cloth EVER!

These are some serious hard water stains left behind on my window after power washing the house.

This is the end result after using just a spray bottle of WATER and my Norwex window cloth with very little effort.

Once I got these cloths, I found myself doing more window cleaning in between the one big summer cleaning job because it was so easy. I can't believe how much money I've saved from not buying paper towels and bottles of harmful glass cleaner. These cloths even got off sticky stuff that was on my window panes for years. The cloths wash up well and you can use them over and over. They are well worth the price and they come in many patters and even a couple different sizes!

During this week only, you can shop the Norwex Home Ericanomics link, which will be open until Sunday, July 17th, 2022!
