I recently brought this guacamole recipe to a work potluck for Fiesta Friday. Since Cinco de Mayo is coming up, I thought I'd share my favorite recipe for homemade guacamole. It was a big hit and none of it was left to take home!
If you buy guacamole in the store, you might notice that it lasts longer than homemade. Avocados have a tendency to turn "yuk" pretty quickly. There are a lot of preservatives in store-bought guac these days! You'll do better for yourself and your guests if you make this at home.
In this recipe, the high acidity of the lime juice helps the guacamole to last longer, but I have no doubt that you won't have any of this guacamole left to worry about it turning brown and gross!
I got this recipe (or a variation of it!) from a friend back in college. I was working in a greenhouse on the campus of Central Michigan University, and the staff would often get together for dinners. A few of my coworkers were vegan and I tried so many different foods-this included! I was not a guacamole fan until I tried this!
My favorite part of this guacamole recipe is the blend of different textures and flavors. An avocado by itself can be sort of bland. You don't even need a seasoning packet for this guacamole either. If you've made guac at home, you may have used a store-bought mix. I'll admit, it tastes good, but it's loaded with salt. This recipe calls for just a dash of salt to taste. You won't even miss the salt with all the fresh flavors. Remember, the chips are already salty too!
