What's in the Cart? A Review of Amazon's Top Holiday Kitchen Gadgets

Good morning Home Ericanomics Blog Readers! As an avid user of kitchen gadgets and Amazon shopper and Associate, I am always scanning for good deals and new gadgets. I love a good gadget-and a good deal! I stumbled across some lists and was curious what was trending after the big Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales!

I was quite surprised to see what made the top 25! While I don't own all of these, I do have some opinions about what landed on this list. If you want to hear what I have to say about these trends and products, read on, people! This is just me throwing my thoughts out there, with a dash of sarcasm and humor!

Observation #1: SIX of the items in the top 25 were meat thermometers. Either people had a bad situation come up last year with holiday meals, or they're trying hard not to make the whole family contract Salmonella! I have to say, the #1 product on the list is pretty cool. If you're into taking the temperature of meat from the comfort of wherever, this Bluetooth Smart Meat Thermometer is for you!

Observation #2 There are also 5 choppers listed, which means people still hate chopping and prepping veggies. I have not had great experiences with hinged choppers, but they look so satisfying to use, don't they? I really do hate chopping onions, so maybe I'll take a look at one of these.  They range from $22-$40, but this one is on top with 51k ratings!

Observation #3: Can openers are still a PITA. Yes, you know what I'm talking about. Two can openers show up on this list. If you can figure it out, nothing beats the Pampered Chef brand opener. I love not having a sharp edge. You know what I love even more? Pull tab opening cans (also, not having to use cans at all-they take up a lot of space in the recycling!) If you're in the market for a new manual can opener, hit up your local PC salesperson!

Observation #4: Things I own show up on this list! I have baking mats, Pyrex measuring cups and the blender bottle. I would buy all of these things again, hands down. In fact, one of the MOST used items in my kitchen, hands down, is the set of three Pyrex measuring cups. I got these as a wedding present and they're almost 19 years old and still holding up. Sometimes, I find myself using and needing all three sizes in one day of baking! If you know someone who is just starting out in a new home, this would be an awesome gift!

Observation #5: Do I need a food scale? Why are there so many food scales on this list? I know some bakers swear by weighing dry ingredients, but so far no one has complained about my cookies. Also, who has time to weigh food? If you're dieting and weighing food, more power to you! They seem to be quite popular and cheap (Less than $10!) on Amazon these days.

Final thoughts...
I am always scanning lists like this for things I'd like to try. I'm leaning towards a chopper and wondering about those silicone cupcake liners (really-do they NOT stick?). I also have thoughts about the resurgence of basket air fryers. As someone who couldn't live without my toaster oven-style air fryer, I wish I had a basket one to do a side by side comparison of air fryer foods! I may have to do some investigating on this one.
