Easter Egg Hunt for Everybody!

As our family grew, so did the Easter egg hunts! My twins, who are now 13, had a few years where they were the only kids on my side of the family, but that has since grown to 9 children, now aged 13 to 1. Last year at our Easter egg hunt, I got creative after the previous years' cutthroat run on the eggs in my yard. There had to be a better way to make the game more fair for the littles, but still challenging for the big kids (yes, they still want to hunt eggs!).

I happened to have a very large and diverse bag of eggs from my mother in law that I was able to sort into equal piles of similar colors. I ended up with about a dozen eggs in 7 different colors. The 8th child had her own set of multicolored giant eggs and the baby did not participate last year!

Each of the egg piles was numbered. Every year we always questions whether or not all the eggs were found. Usually, I found one in the yard later in the summer with a melted piece of chocolate hiding inside. On year, we found an egg with a dollar inside in the fall!

I printed out a page of a picture of the egg pile assigned to each kid and let them know how many there were and that each egg would be numbered with a sharpie. No one could touch the giant eggs for the littlest and no one could take another person's egg color. They had to leave it alone! The wild card was that there were about a dozen tiny eggs hidden around the yard with dollar bills and ONE five dollar bill inside that anyone could take.

Last year's egg hunt was the best we have ever had! As usual, one egg was not found (it was my youngest son's egg) and we did end up finding it during some yard work last summer. This year, I'll be digging out the eggs, re-sorting them and trying to figure out how to add in another kid's egg supply now that we have one of the littles moving up in the ranks! One of my nieces has not forgotten about Aunt Erica's egg hunt and has requested that she be assigned another color this year (she felt hers really blended in with the yard!).

Are you ready to up your Easter egg hunt this year? You'd better get going, Easter is just a week away. I've already ordered a new supply of eggs to add to the hunt! Here's my affiliate link for a good set of eggs that can get here in time. Hurry, there are limited supplies this year and some arrive after Easter (Sunday, April 17th, 2022).

  1. We had done this for years. We gave them one egg in a ziploc so they know their color or color combo. Everybody gets 12 eggs. We tried to hide based on ability. I have a nephew that loved to climb, so his went up high in trees or on the roof.

My sister is bringing it back and we have 24 grandkids and great grandkids from 35 yrs to 4 mos. Thats a lot of eggs needing to be stuffed for next Saturday's hunt.

Us adults get a scavenger hunt for something good.
