Cupboard Conundrum

Does anyone actually clean their cupboard doors anymore? Once again, my mom gets credit for this one. Actually, I think it's one of those chores that she didn't do that she passed off to me. Of course, I was always given praise for what a good job I did. Nonetheless, there was always a lot of elbow grease involved. Well, grease too. When's the last time you really cleaned your cupboard doors above your microwave or stove? If you can run your finger down the panel in a streak of grease, then it's time.

I do try to do a thorough cupboard door cleaning at least twice a year. I'm talking kitchen cupboards. Don't ask about the bathroom cabinets. My kitchen cabinet doors really take a beating, from all the baking and cooking, bad aim in the direction of the garbage can and generally being the busiest place in the house.

I really do like my cupboards, even after 16 years and I'd like to keep them in good shape. I have a few tips for washing, polishing and hiding the scratches that inevitably come with time. For those cupboards close to the cooking area, I have a trick for getting grime out of those hard to reach places. Some of these bits of advice are best for stained doors, but the painted ones could use a good swipe now and again too!

If the thought of cleaning all your cupboards is daunting, take a day for just the uppers and a different day for the lower ones. I never try to clean the insides or do any organizing the day I clean cupboard doors. That's too much for one day for sure!

So let's get ready! I like to have a bucket of warm water (just water!) and my favorite microfiber cloth and another cloth to dry. Do you have a bamboo skewer or toothpick? That's what I use for the cracks that get filled up with gunk. It's up to you if you want to wash and dry the entire area and go back to polish. Sometimes I do the wash, dry, polish all in one area. Have some deep scratches? You can use an extra dab of cabinet polish that matches your finish OR I use a brown or black sharpie. You can smudge the sharpie into the scratch with your polish cloth and it's like it never even happened.

Do you want to see my cupboards come clean! I'll go live on my facebook page Home EricaNomics and post the video for replay later tonight!
